Every year my mama decks the halls (and living room) with the most festive of Christmas decorations. It is a real magical wonderland. She has a special collection of toys from her childhood that she has collected over the years. There are skates and dolls and games. Each item has a story attached to it. Some year I am going to sit down and ask her the story behind each and every delightful toy. This year the toys were moved to make way for presents. Santa and Frosty even made an appearance. Hi guys!
Vintage Santa, reindeer and frosty hung just right!
Since I was a little kiddo my dad has given my sister and me one special gift just from him. All the other gifts said, "from Mom and Dad" but we knew our lovely Mama picked them out. My dad's gift would be unique and something that we knew was all his idea. It has evolved from sleds and table top pinball machines to clothes and
purses (yes, purses...he is comfortable enough with his masculinity to
buy us purses). He has a great eye for style. Don't let the rugged exterior fool you. Way to go Dad! That fact that my dad picks out a gift just from him has always been very special to me. It brings to life wonderful memories when I think back on the thoughtful gifts he has given us.
This year that tradition was expanded in two exciting ways. First, my dad had a super dad-like and extra fun surprise for the grand girls. Dad had us all gather in the living room while he took the girls and got the surprise ready. "Are you all in there? Do you have your cameras ready?" he said. We were ready and out they came...
A new sled just perfect for the hills and fields of my parent's homestead! As you can see my sister and I were beyond excited watching our girls come out on Grandpa's surprise.
Then, this happened. A sweet love hug, totally unprompted, and beyond adorable. There is nothing like cousin love. I'm so glad we caught this affectionate moment. Even though Cricket is a bit oblivious, Cousin was very happy and wanted to share the love. Awwww!
These two monkeys are going to have SO much fun on their sled this winter (and the next, and next...). Not pictured are the matching North Face jackets Grandpa
I love this photo. I'm pulling Cousin and my Sis is holding Cricket.Nothing special but a great reminder of what a fun Christmas we had!
Mr. Schalk decided to carry on the tradition of a special daddy gift. One thing that Cricket can know without a doubt was handpicked by her daddy who loves her dearly.
"What is it daddy?"

A handmade wooden camera is the perfect daddy gift for so many reasons. My heart burst over watching them unwrap this special gift. I love them more than words can express!
I sadly did not get a group photo, but as you can see got many baby photos. They are just so darn cute! Pictures or not, the company was great, the food was abundant, and many great memories were made. We had a great Rhine/Kiser/Schalk Christmas and will remember the day for a long time to come.
Tomorrow is Part 2 of our Christmas Adventure. :)
xoxo, Rachel
P.S. Just had to share some additional baby cuteness!
